Plant made his professional debut on May 10, 2014, and quickly rose through the ranks, winning his first 18 fights. In January 2019, he defeated Jose Uzcategui to capture the IBF super middleweight title, which he successfully defended twice before losing it to Canelo Álvarez in November 2021.
